Artist, Actor and Writer

The art of Teddy M. Haggarty is best classified as primitivism. Simple recurring figures show in his pieces, but they have a level of growth and evolution that fills them with life. Unicorns, snakes and mermaids frequent his fantasy landscapes fleshed out in colors that range from bright primary to the softest of pastels. His works range from the simplicity of "Kitty" to the complex "Sag Harbor Mermaid", with multiple characters filled with meaning, Ted makes use of many media styles and formats ranging from pencil on paper to acrylic, watercolors, crayon and ink on canvas and art paper. His "Riot" series is tempera on newsprint reporting the 1992 L.A. riots.

Ted has worked extensively in collaborative art, and has produced many pieces with Dan Richholt and Louisiana artist Noel Rockmore. These pieces range from one concept canvas to lithographs divided into separate areas for each artists' style.

Teddy is fascinated by the opportunity provided by large spaces. He has painted the long exterior wall of Bob's Java Jive with a jungle scene highlighted by a gorilla, a "van Gogh" monkey and an elephant with an attitude. The interior of Jazzbones club features a motif of animals playing music while juggling bones. Bones are also scattered on the floor of this work. The now dufunct Hotel Bar and Grill sported a room filled with fantastic, vibrant images from floor to ceiling. All of these permanent installations are in Tacoma Washington.

Teddy's artistic endeavors extend beyond the visual arts. He has film credits that include doubling for Alec Baldwin in "The Shadow" and "Beetlejuice". He is also credited in "Sibling Rivalry" and the cult film "Maniac Cop". His speaking credits include "Lost Highway" and "The Color of Evening", as well as television's "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman". Teddy is also a published poet and has worked on several scripts for the stage as well as a book. Ted currently lives and works in the Tacoma area in Washington State.
